On December 6, 2017, the Annual Sign Language Contest of Jiangsu Province was held in our university. The contest was hosted by the Mental Health Research Center of Xianlin University Town, and was co-hosted by our university. The contest was themed “Taking Hands with Love”, aiming to encourage college students to show their kindness and friendliness and pursuit their happiness and dreams. Jin Lixia, the Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of our university, Ma Xiaohong, the Researcher of Students’ Affairs Department of Education Department of Jiangsu, and Cao Tian’an, the Director of the Mental Health Research Center, as well as more than 2,000 teachers and students from 23 universities observed the contest.
The Mental Health Research Center of Xianlin University Town, constituted with 24 member universities, has made great contribution to the improvement of mental health work in each university. The Sign Language Contest is a traditional program hosted by the center.
On the opening ceremony, Jin Lixia delivered a welcome speech and thanked the Center for its guidance and support for our mental health education work. Cao Tian’an made a remark on the performance of 23 teams, saying that sign language is not only the communicative tool with mute people, but rather a way for common people to express emotion and feelings. Through the contest, college students are expected to be conscious of their psychological health and mental state.
In the end, 3 teams won the first prize, 5 the second and 7 the third.
